Dr Toula Gordillo

Dr Toula Gordillo is a Clinical and Jungian psychologist with over 30 years of experience in education, counselling, and mental health. She holds degrees in the arts, education, and clinical psychology, and is known for integrating modern psychological methods with creative, spiritual (non-religious), and philosophical techniques. Having lived and worked among Indigenous individuals in rural and remote communities and other non-traditional populations, Dr Toula developed Story Image Therapy (SIT®) and SIT Shadow Work™. These evidence-based teaching and counselling methods help individuals identify and resolve unconscious emotional and psychological blocks and patterns. Drawing on symbolic stories and images to explore root causes of mental health issues, Dr Toula has found this provides a deeper and more meaningful path to healing than traditional talk or cognitive therapies. Dr Toula is a published author and international speaker. She has created a suite of Story Image Therapy tools, including therapeutic books, audiobooks, illustrated posters, and guided activities. These tools are used in one-on-one counselling, group workshops, and structured programs across educational, corporate, and community settings. Grounded in Jungian theory and supported by modern psychological research, Dr Toula’s approach is suitable for people of all ages and cultural backgrounds. Her work supports personal growth, professional development, and improved mental health through a process that is both creative and evidence-based. Dr Toula is also the founder of Shadow Work Solutions, an organisation dedicated to training and mentoring practitioners in the use of SIT®. Her mission is to empower others by helping them uncover the unconscious patterns that shape their lives—and transform them. Approach Growing up in Katherine (NT) and Far North Queensland, I have spent over 30 years working with Indigenous youth from Palm Island, rural and remote business leaders, and other non-traditional populations. This background has shaped my understanding of the complex social, emotional, and cultural challenges faced by individuals and communities often overlooked by mainstream psychology. I specialise in unconscious healing, resilience-building, and self-empowerment. My approach blends ancient wisdom with contemporary psychological practices to help clients navigate deep-seated emotional and psychological issues. Central to my work is Story Image Therapy (SIT®)—a culturally inclusive, evidence-based method I developed to support individuals in improving mental health, achieving personal growth, and enhancing professional development. SIT® uses symbolic stories and visual images to access the unconscious mind and bring hidden patterns to light. Like piecing together a puzzle, the process helps uncover the root causes of mental and emotional challenges that may contribute to clinical symptoms or life disruptions. My work is particularly suited to those seeking deeper insight and lasting transformation, especially individuals from diverse or marginalised backgrounds. Through SIT®, I guide clients to greater self-awareness, healing, and empowered change in their lives.
